Club Tournaments 2020

The Tennis Committee has decided to hold five summer tournaments.

Please enter no later than Saturday 20th June by emailing - tennis.chairman@egtsc.org

If you are entering a doubles tournament, please state clearly who your partner is.

Draws will be on the club website/circulated electronically by 1st July. Rounds will take place through July and August.

Our aim is to hold a Finals Day or several Finals Days in September, but we are not sure if these will be closed doors events or open to spectators! We would like to keep our options open right now as so many things are in the air due to C-19.

2020 summer tournaments for all ages -

MEN'S SINGLES

LADIES SINGLES

MEN'S DOUBLES

LADIES DOUBLES

MIXED DOUBLES

Please note that it is our intention to hold the Donoughmore Cup, vets and mixed handicap tournaments later in the year.

Singles Box Leagues for June & July

As an initial and measured return to organised club activities, the Tennis Committee has agreed to resume the Singles Box Leagues for club members.

Leagues are open to players of all levels - upon entering, we will try to place you in a group, playing opponents of a similar standard.

There will be either 4 or 5 matches to play, during the initial round, which will end on Sunday 26th July.

There will be a Men's League, a Ladies League and a Mixed Handicap League - hopefully, with a few groups of each.

Unfortunately, it will not be possible to run the Junior or Doubles Leagues, at this stage. However, it is hoped that these can also resume at sometime in the future.

Players should arrange their own matches – use WhatsApp, it’s great for this!

The league will commence on Monday 8th June - entry closes on Saturday 6th June.

Entry will be via email to the league organiser, Sion Evans (evans_sion@hotmail.com) - please include your name and the league(s) you wish to enter.

Restricted tennis play guidelines apply - please refer to the club and LTA guidelines below:

Whether you want to be the next Andy Murray or Johanna Konta, play competitive matches, improve your skills or just enjoy fun social tennis with a couple of drinks afterwards, we have something for everyone.

Facilities
We have 3 AstroTurf, 3 Poraflex and 2 Hard Tennis courts. Four of the courts are floodlit making tennis available all year round. Our AstroTurf and Poraflex courts are amongst the best in the local area.

Matches
If team play is what you are looking for, we have various men's, ladies and mixed teams playing in both the Sussex and Weald leagues. We are very interested in welcoming those who would like to play competitive tennis and will always try to ensure that you get to play regularly in matches.

Fun for everyone
Our thriving friendly social tennis sessions run on Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. They are open to all to turn up, mix in and play. If you are new to tennis, or new to the area or the club it can be a great way of getting to know people. We also run occasional ‘American’ Mixed Doubles tournaments and Box Leagues throughout the year which everyone stands a chance of winning, no matter what their ability.

Improving your game
The Tennis Coaching team, led by Adam Baldwin, are on hand to help bring your game up to the next level. They offer term time courses for all junior ages and tennis camps during the school holidays. Adult courses are also available as are private lessons if you prefer to get some intensive 1:1 work on that dodgy serve or backhand!

Recycling Tennis Balls

Dear Members,
I am delighted to inform you that the Recycled Tennis Balls not only raised £42.00 for our Club funds
but also contributed greatly towards various charities, as you will see from the letter of thanks (download below)
from the representative of Recycaball.
Our thanks go to all who contributed.
May I take this opportunity of reminding you that they cannot accept balls in bad condition nor low-pressure balls.
Best wishes,
Jane
