Return to Squash/Racketball - updated 1st September

The return to squash / racketball protocols have been updated from 1st September to enable full-court games to be played but only subject to specific conditions :

1. There are no restrictions if you play with members of your household

2. You can play with anyone if you restrict the game to ’SIDES’ where you must socially distance by staying on one side of the court and with only one player serving and touching the ball (see video link https://vimeo.com/438126720 )

3. By joining a Squash / Racketball Bubble you can play a version of full-court squash - but ONLY WITH OTHER PLAYERS IN THAT BUBBLE - please see further detail and conditions as set out under the Leagues tab. FYI the England Squash guidelines include inter alia a recommendation for all players to wear protective eyewear, the games should be best of 3 (not 5) with new protocols regarding serving and to halt each game halfway through in order to use hand sanitiser and to sanitise the ball. In joining the Bubbles, you agree to read and uphold all of the guidelines set out by England Squash https://www.englandsquash.com/back-to-squash/guidance-for-players

4. Please remember the following:
Only play if you have booked a court and entered both player’s names.
No doubles or switching opponents (even if they are in your bubble) during a booking slot.
Arrive changed and ready to play (but please change your shoes from outdoor on arrival as usual).
Bring your own water bottle and towel.
Don’t wipe your hands on the court walls.
Take any kitbag, water bottle etc on court with you.
Go home to shower.
Use hand sanitiser before and after playing
Wipe both the inside and outside handles on the court door before and after playing
Wipe the light meter around the coin slot after inserting money
Wipe the key to the outside courts before and after use.
Follow the club’s existing guidelines on clubhouse use
Bring a visitor PROVIDED you make them aware of these guidelines and register them in the visitors book.

Please remember this is an indoor sport in an enclosed space and hence has inherently higher risks than outdoor sports. We have conducted a COVID-19 risk assessment for our club but inevitably there is considerable responsibility on players to play in as safe a manner as possible and to follow the England Squash guidelines. The courts will be cleaned once a day but it is important that you also please clean door handles and light meters before and after playing.

All three courts are now open for play but Initially we will block off every 2nd booking so that the air within a court has 40 minutes to settle between games. This will be reviewed if the demand warrants opening the glass back or reducing the time between games. The showers will not be available. The viewing gallery will also be closed initially.

Club nights will not be allowed so those courts are available to be booked.

LTA Guidance - July 2020

New LTA Guidance for Safe Play 01/06/2020

Please note that there are further changes in regulations and guidance effective tomorrow, June 1st, for a "return to managed play" from the LTA.

Both singles play and doubles play is now permitted with people from outside of your household. However, players must remain 2 metres+ apart at all times. There is also some relaxation on ball use with the proviso that strict hygiene procedures are adopted by all players.

If you wish to play doubles, please read the full guidance at https://www.lta.org.uk/about-us/tennis-news/news-and-opinion/general-news/2020/march/coronavirus-covid-19---latest-advice/

There is useful information there about sharing balls and avoiding pysical contact on court.

It is imperative that you book a court before playing , whatever time of day, and name the people that you are playing. This is important from a track and trace perspective.

We are supplying hand sanitiser at the side gate and by the courts but please wash your hands before coming to the club and bring your own gel in order to sanitise your hands regularly.

It is important that you undertake your own risk assessment before playing and should only play when you are comfortable to do so with people you can trust during this difficult transition period.

At this point in time, the clubhouse will remain closed but the General Committee will review this decision in the next week or so.

Restricted Tennis Play Effective 13/5/2020

Restricted tennis play is now available from Wednesday 13th May for EGTSC members*. However, strict guidelines must be followed for your own safety and other members. The aim is to minimise encounters between people, including the car park and the entrance, and to ensure that the 2 metre social distancing measure can be adhered to at all times.

A maximum of two people per court (singles play only). Players can be from different households. The only exception is where a group of four players are all from the same household in which case they can play doubles.

All activity should be consistent with the government guidance regarding health, travel, social distancing and hygiene at all times.

The clubhouse will remain closed for now. Please access the courts via the side gate using code. With the hasp on the left, enter the code, then press the button at the base of the paddlock to release the hasp. The numbers need to be in line and will click when engaged properly. If you are the last person to leave the premises, please lock the padlock by rotating the numbers.

Nets will be checked at the start of the day at the appropriate height to avoid you having to adjust them.

Hand sanitizer will be available for use at entrance and at the courts.

Guidelines for personal protection :

1. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before leaving home to go to the court (or use an alcohol gel if washing hands is not possible).

2. Ensure you have booked a court in advance. Please vacate your court in a staggered way around 5 or 10 minutes before the end of your booked slot in order to avoid crossing paths with others coming on court.

3. Stay at least two metres away from other players at all times (including during play, when taking breaks and before and after play).

4. Take all your own equipment (do not share equipment such as rackets, grips, hats and towels). Clean and wipe down your equipment, including racquets and water bottles before and after use.

5. Bring a full water bottle, and do not share food or drink with others.

6. Bring your own tennis balls that are clearly marked (e.g. with your initials).

7. Avoid touching court gates, fences, benches, etc. where possible.

8. Allow others to leave before you enter the court - if you need to wait, then do so away from the courts and clear of the gates.

9. Do not make physical contact with other players (such as shaking hands or high five).

10. Stay on your side of court and avoid changing ends, or agree to change ends at opposite sides of the net.

11. Avoid using your hands to pick up tennis balls that aren’t yours - use your racquet/foot to hit/kick them to your opponent or return them to another court.

*For those yet to renew membership then you must do so in order to play. Based on closure of the club there are two options for paying in full:

(1) the amount quoted in the current membership form (emailed previously to all members or available via our website) noting an extension to the current expiry date to 31//05/2021
(2) pro rata adjustment to amounts quoted (pay for 10 months out of 12) with renewal at usual date of 31//03/2021.

All membership enquires can be sent to membership@egtsc.org
