Squash season 2019-20 final results.

Good morning all.

With regards to our three Squash teams involved in the Sussex leagues which were suspended in March due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we have had a final decision from Sussex Squash on the competition and I am sure it will come as no surprise to members that the squash season was cut short with outstanding matches remaining uncompleted.

It was decided that the results of outstanding matches would be entered on the basis of average points won from previously played matches, and all the final standings are now on the Sussex Squash website.

This of course did leave the first team in a Liverpool like limbo for several months as their push for glory was left in the hands of the administrators. With the leagues now being finalised based on an average points per match basis the team have been crowned champions and secured promotion to Division 2 East. The teams average score per match of 17 points from a possible 20 was also the highest across all of the Sussex divisions.
Whilst the open top bus parade has been put on hold, the team will be celebrating together with appropriate refreshments when circumstances allow. A big thanks to captain Leon Harris for his hard work and with a relatively young team this is hopefully the first of many triumphs.

Our Ladies team finished fourth in the tough Ladies Sussex league. Many thanks to Heather Bean and Sue Kent for their efforts over the last few years to ensure we enable the ladies to continue to compete in the Sussex division.

Finally the second team finished a very respectable fourth in their division with Keith Wilson once again doing an excellent job of rotating players to ensure all those who want to play team squash get an equal opportunity.

As you will all be aware, the current situation remains that squash courts cannot be used at all. The general opinion seems to be that it is unlikely that competitive squash will be able to return until social distancing is no longer a requirement and none of us can predict when this might be, but the likelihood is it will be towards the end of this year at the very earliest.

We will of course update when we get more information from both England Squash and Sussex Squash.

Best regards, Dominic Williams/Andy Norris.
