SQUASH / RACKETBALL – NOVEMBER UPDATE

Tuesday 18 November, 7pm – 2025 AGM.
Please try to attend so you have a say in how our club moves forward.

We are proposing replacement heaters for courts 1 and 2 and membership approval is required for this to proceed. We are keen that the recent investment in improving our squash facilities isn’t affected by poor heating which will impact the plaster. The new heaters will have tamperproof thermostats to retain an ambient/optimum temperature 24/7.

Racket Ball Leagues - Results November 2025
Congratulations to our league winners as follows:

Premier – James Norman
League 1 – Richard Newbatt
League 2 – Stuart Sterling
League 3 – Bradley Bentman

A fresh crop of winners – well done all!

Good to see the return of everyone who took some time out over the summer and welcome to Elliot and Jerry who are joining the next round. The new leagues will be posted later today.

In other news….

Our squash handicap tournament continues apace with some of the top seeds making an early exit. The new Mrs Swadling was responsible for several of these, showing great form in the early stages. Anna Hall has picked up the mantle triumphing over the no.9 seed to take her place in the semi-finals. Can she continue her run of victories and take out Connor to get to the finals? Go Anna!

Our other semi-finalists are Joe and Pez. Pez has been on remarkable form lately and always has a great touch on the ball. Can his knees hold out long enough to overcome Joe? Perhaps the more important question is can the plaster survive another pounding from Joe?

Semi-final matches due by 16 November.

Please do come along and show your support for our finalists on the evening of Friday 28 November, 7.30pm.

Team Squash Update

Mens 1st Team – Division 1 East
Currently in 4th place but with two games in hand and only 4 points adrift of Crowborough in 3rd place, an improved position is likely. Of the 3 matches played to date Curt has yet to drop a game!

Mens 2nd Team – Division 3 East
In 2nd place with a game in hand versus leaders Horsham, but with quite a significant points difference they will be difficult to catch. 3 out of 4 matches won so far this season, only loss against Horsham but a very close match.

Mens 3rd Team – Division 4 East
The party team! There for the food and drink with a side order of squash. Currently in 3rd place but with a game in hand. The team secured wins in 2 out of their 3 matches to date, with good form shown by Lewis at no.1.

Mens 4th Team – Division 5 East
The team biding their time, yet to secure a match win but enjoying the socials. Points gained so far secured by Jake and Ollie, both with a 3-0 victory.

Ladies 1st & 2nd Teams
Only one division in Sussex and with Lewes dropping out we’re down to 4 teams overall. The 1st team are currently in joint first place alongside Crawley and the 2nd team are in 4th place. However, our ladies are stepping up! It’s great to see some new faces playing team squash this season.

Forthcoming Home Fixtures
12 November – Mens 4th vs Dolphin
13 November – Mens 2nd vs Dolphin
20 November – Mens 1st vs Horsham
27 November – Mens 3rd vs Dolphin
28 November – Business League vs Littlehampton
04 December – Mens 1st vs Weald
18 December – Mens 1st vs Brighton

Business League
Like a phoenix from the ashes the re-emergence of the business league is creating a swell of interest. Thanks to Stuart North / Autarky for sponsoring the team. There are 8 teams in the league. The first home match was held last Friday evening and resulted in a great 5-0 win against Nutley. Next opponent is tonight versus Dotsquares away at The Weald and next home fixture as above.

Pilates
Excellent to see so many members taking advantage of the Sunday pilates class. We have had so much interest that Sue has kindly agreed to run a further class on a Wednesday afternoon from 4.50 to 5.30pm. This additional class will start sometime before Christmas, please keep an eye out around the club for further details on the start date.

Wednesday Squash Training, 6.50pm onwards
Great to see good attendance continues with our training night and everyone benefiting from Giles’ coaching. You don’t need to play for one of the teams to attend this session, just an enthusiasm to improve and a willingness to get stuck in. (Please check booking sheets as the session does not run when there is a match)

2025 Jersey Squash Festival
2025 has seen the return of a few boybands but we weren’t expecting this one… An EGTSRC / Dunnings combo that promised so much and… well, they had a good time and no one got arrested (to my knowledge).
