League 1

Well done to the League 1 players who played ALL their matches with most securing additional bonus points for having played at least 2 games by the halfway stage.
The current league is on the website and runs until 04 July.
If you wish to join or leave the leagues, please send me an email.
Racketball Handicap Competition
We had an entertaining and competitive finale to the handicap tournament. In the plate final Karen Millard and Stuart North both put in an excellent performance with very close games, but Stuart emerged the victor at 3-1.
In the main final Dominic Williams faced Richard Fawsitt-Jones. With a 6-point disadvantage in handicap Dom had to go for it from the start and there were some great rallies. The audience were on tenterhooks throughout as to whether Dom’s broken racket would go the distance, but it came through and he secured a 3-0 victory.
Thanks to all who entered and to Roger Bean for organizing.
2023 Club Annual Squash Tournament
In both tournaments we are now at the semi-final stage. Club Coach, Giles Cowdell, has already powered his way through to finals night, knocking me out in the first round – no mercy shown! Now awaiting the results from the remaining semi-final game between Dominic Williams (2nd seed) and Leon Harris (6th seed).
The ladies’ tournament continues apace having followed a 2-division round-robin format. Hermione Vartan and Karen Millard are our semi-final contenders with a cracking game likely.
Finals night is on Friday 19 May, kicking off at 6.40pm – please come along and show your support.
Men’s Team Squash
In the final match of the season the men’s 1st team secured an essential 3-2 win at Cooden to hold onto 4thposition in Division 2. The win ensured the team stay put for another crack at promotion to Division 1 next season.
Another strong performance by the men’s 2nd team in their final match against Dunnings resulted in a 5-0 victory, securing them the top spot in Division 5 – congratulations to all! Sadly, Curt’s suggestion of an open-top bus celebration through East Grinstead has to be postponed until next year – motivation for the team if ever some was needed…
Ladies Squash
The Sussex Ladies 050’s finals were held in mid-April in Peterborough, with our county team supported by no less than 2 females from EGTSRC! Unfortunately, me, Karen Millard, and Sarah Naish (Weald) didn’t win on the day, but previous victory was sufficient to secure us a bronze medal.
Club Nights
Keep your eye in over the summer months by attending club night. Running all year round and well supported by players of all standards.
Squash – Monday from 6.10pm
Racketball – Thursday from 6.10pm
A Marathon Update
A big thank you to all who supported Mike and Nicola Breen’s London Marathon effort last month. Despite the wet weather they both managed to finish and although Nicola picked up an injury along the way (in amongst a few(!) blisters), Mike had such a good time he can’t wait to run again! They raised a superb £4,474 for Pancreatic Cancer UK. Well done to both :-)
