2025 SQUASH & RACKET BALL SUMMER SOCIAL – Match 2 Results

Court 1 saw battle between the Tincredibles and The Tin Tinners. Sue and Dominique kicked us off with a great match and all the games were very tight but Dominique secured victory 2-1. Next up was Pezza, with another borrowed squash racket and a 16-point deficit between him and Anna. He had to stay focused and was definitely the villain of the piece with a vocal gallery trying to spur Anna to victory, but sadly not her night (0-3). I was trounced by the much-improved Matthew and will be having a word with the organizer (0-3). Next up the highly anticipated Gunter vs Gunter face-off. Bonnie didn’t know where to look and Jerry couldn’t coach between games without revealing who is his favourite son – it was brutal! Final match of the night between Curt and Mr Norris, and what a game it was! A 21-point difference made for long games and Andy played his socks off but Curt was on form and didn’t drop a point in the 3rd. Well done, Tincredibles!
MOTM – Andy Norris!

A good overall win for Go with the Flo, who needed to pick up some points this week. Blue Moon put up a fight starting with Florice vs Fiona which went to 1-1 before a storming third game gave Florice the 2-1 victory. Next up was Henry G vs Henry C, with both players able to draw support from anyone on the gallery ?? Although a rather one-sided squash match (3-0 to Henry C) the boot would surely have been on the other foot had it been racket ball! We weren’t sure what to expect from the Stuart vs Colin battle, but it turns out Mr Johnson is quite the dark horse, proving himself rather handy with more than just a tennis racket. Stuart had quite the deficit to overcome and although going 2-0 down stayed the course to secure a vital point in the third (2-1). Mark and Karen had a cracking match, and if I could give points for effort…. A well needed win for Mark to secure some points for Blue Moon. Last up the much-anticipated match between Toby and Stuart, the gallery was all aflutter… Had money exchanged hands? Who the heck would volunteer to mark? Stuart took an early lead and stayed ahead to secure the 1st but Toby came back strongly in the 2nd. A very close game in the 3rd but Toby clinched it for some vital Blue Moon points.
MOTM – Henry Grubb!

The glassback saw action from Smiffy’s Labradors and Bramwell’s Babes, both of whom were in need of points. Mark and Gareth kicked off proceedings with the handicap proving too big a gap for Mark in the 1st but by the 2nd he was making better progress and a big push in the 3rd saw him take it 16-14 but Gareth secured the win 2-1. Bernie helped the Labradors extend their lead although he couldn’t afford to let his guard down against Helen (3-0). Team captain Elliot had originally intended for the 4th string match to be racket ball but Bonnie was having none of it – small but fierce! Turns out Bonnie was right and she stormed ahead 2-0 but Jake dug in and secured the 3rd. Battle of the captains was next. Having won home advantage Elliot made the tactical decision that Chris wouldn’t get to play racket ball (again), and the effing and jeffing could be heard on the outside courts. Turns out Elliot was right for that string and secured a 3-0 victory. Finally, Matt and Joe took to the court for the last match of the night. A 17-point gap between the two resulted in some long games. Joe was able to secure the 2nd but looked a tad tired for the 3rd which Matt then took 15-6. A good win for the Labradors.
WOTM – Bonnie Gunter!
