And before we know it, finals night is upon us!
First, however, details on last week’s matches.
The Tin Tinners put in an almighty performance to beat Blue Moon and pull themselves up the leaderboard. ‘Secret Weapon No.1’ Dominique, proving unstoppable once again, although Henry gave it his best shot with the 3rd game a nail-biting 19-17 in Dominique’s favour. ‘Secret Weapon No.2’, Matthew, proving a handicap headache again, with a storming win against Stuart, who couldn’t overcome the large handicap deficit. Neither Torben nor Meg could secure more than a game apiece against Ricky and Andy playing off scratch, so it was down to Thomas to spare Blue Moon’s blushes with a solid win against Lewis.
MOTM – Stuart Sterling!
The Tincredibles extended their lead at the top of the table with a strong win over Bramwell’s Babes. Team Captain, Elliot, wasn’t messing about and secured a vital 3 points with his win over Sue, and despite Mark looking very sharp in the first 2 games, he couldn’t get the edge on Connor. Pezza maintained his winning squash form although Lynn smashed it in the 2nd – fuelled by a cheeky whiskey perhaps? - and I used every edge of the racket to secure enough mishits and a win against Richard. The final match with Curt and Ben was great to watch. Ben gave it his all (and had the blisters to show for it afterwards), but an on-form Curt didn’t drop a game.
WOTM – Lynn Edwards!
Some great, close games between the Labradors and GwtF meant everybody scored points for their team but GwtF were victorious, securing a 3-2 win and moving to equal 4th on the leaderboard. Bonnie pushed Henry, particularly in the 2nd and missed out by a whisker (try whiskey, Bonnie… works for Lynn). Somebody didn’t get the memo and allowed Chris to play racket ball but Colin was determined it would be no easy ride. Simon and Shaun were well matched, both playing off scratch with Shaun the eventual victor. Gareth had a 19-point starting advantage against Stuart but it was still a cracking match taking it to 2-2 going into the final string. Florrie played a blinder and at 1-1 and 12-3 up in the 3rd it looked like it might go to the Labradors, but Mike picked up the pace, not dropping another point to seal victory for GwtF.
MOTM – Gareth Williams!
