IMPORTANT NEWS: CLUB BAR

Dear Member,

The club bar continues to go from strength to strength.

For example, we recently held a very successful wine and food pairing evening which entertained 70+ members and guests whilst raising in excess of £1,200 for our club. A big thanks once again to the team of volunteers who gave a huge amount of their own time to make the evening such a success.

Now for the big news.

As agreed at the AGM in 2023, we are finally ready to upgrade our bar storage facilities from the ‘ramshackle shed’ that is falling apart before our eyes to a brick-built bar store. This will allow us to both keep more stock, at the correct ambient temperature, whilst also being able to increase the range of drinks that we offer.

Work on this project will start later on next week (from 24.04.2025) with the dismantling of the old store, followed by two weeks of construction work on the new store. When the build is completed, we will then fit the new store out.

What does this mean for me?

During the construction work please ensure that you use the clubhouse to access the tennis courts as the metal back gate will be out of bounds. If you cycle to the club and wish to leave your bike by the tennis courts, please wheel it carefully through the clubhouse.

From 24 April 2025 we will expect that we will be unable to offer draught Harveys and Kronenberg until the project is completed. We expect that this will be for at least three weeks, until 12 May 2025 at the earliest.

The bar will remain open during this time offering our usual selection of bottled beer, wine, spirits, snacks and soft drinks. Storage will be limited though so please be understanding if your favourite tipple is temporarily out of stock.

When the project is complete, we expect to be able to offer at least one more draught beer, probably an IPA style ale, together with a new draught lager. We are open to suggestions on what other drinks you would like to see offered. Harveys will continue and will, hopefully, keep better through the warmer summer months.

Finally, the existing back door from the kitchen area will only provide access to the new bar store in the future and will not be accessible to members.

If you have any questions, please give me or another member of the GC a shout.

Cheers!

Andy Humphreys
