Squash Championships Semi-Finals Evening
Some cracking games as you’d expect at this stage of the tournament. Florrie Edwards and Megan North kicked off proceedings with both playing and moving around the court well. A hard-hitting match interspersed with lovely dropshots and considered play throughout. Florrie finally emerged the victor with a 3-1 win. Well done ladies!
Next up was Coach Cowdell and Matt North – experience versus youth! Canny Cowdell threw everything at Matt with his usual lovely touch on the ball but Matt has great court presence and was just too fast, taking the match 3-0.
Last up was Dom Williams and Curt Bean. With fitness no issue on either side everyone made sure they had a fresh drink before settling down to watch. There were some EPIC rallies of 30+ shots! Curt’s speed around the court and ability to retrieve the ball is great to watch however, Dom managed to keep the edge in the 5th for a great 3-2 result.
Thanks to all who entered and made the effort to play their matches. Please come along and support all the finalists tomorrow evening 25th.

TEAM SQUASH - END OF SEASON CAPTAINS UPDATE
As we draw to the end of another great squash season, where we firmly cemented our reputation as great hosts to all visiting teams, I hand over to our fabulous team captains for their end of season match reports.
Overall Round-up – Joe Collier
This has been an extremely successful year with 4 men’s teams playing for the first season in memory for EGTSRC, and alongside this has been 2 successful ladies’ teams.
We have played 73 matches in total across the 6 teams (with 2 matches still left to play!). Within the first 71 matches we have won 26 of them!
Ladies 1st & 2nd Teams – Ladies Captains: Megan North & Sue Kent
Ladies squash has continued to grow this year with 15 members, once again enabling us to field 2 teams into the Sussex League which is fantastic!
With such a great interest we have well-attended, regular ladies squash socials, including some coaching from Giles! (and even sometimes dinner afterwards).
The ladies 1st team has had a great season overall, winning 7 out of our 8 matches! With our regular team of Tracey Webster, Megan North and Florrie Edwards, always putting their best foot forward we have had some great matches this season, finishing the year off 2nd in the league, narrowly missing out to Crawley by 1 point! Special mention has to go to Florrie for winning all her matches!
The ladies 2nd team have had a good season, finishing a strong 3rd in the league, only behind our 1st team and of course, Crawley.
Team stalwarts, Lynn Edwards, Karen Millard and Hermione Vartan were backed up by Fiona Mackay, Florice Cole-Fontayn, Sue Kent and Bonnie Gunter. Well done to all!
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the ladies squash this year, whether it be training, matches or spectating. It is lovely to see the interest growing. Thanks to those who have travelled, played and cooked for our home fixtures.
The support has been fantastic this year and we hope to get some more ladies involved in the fixtures. Looking forward to another great season in 2025/26!
Mens 1st Team – Captain: Joe Collier
The 1st team has had a great season with a really consistent team, with 5 players playing almost every match.
Within this year we have had Matt North join us, who quickly rose to be 1st string and has had an incredible season with 8 wins out of the 10 matches he has played. Both Dom Williams and Curt Bean have been the constant 2nd and 3rd strings, winning over 13 matches between them.
Bringing up the bottom of the team we have Coach Cowdell (‘The Postman’, as he always delivers a win!), myself and stand-ins from Leon Harris and Sam Gunter.
The team are currently sat in 3rd place in the 1st Division with 6 points next week at Nutley (final match of the season), enough to guarantee the podium!
A great season and brilliant result!
Mens 2nd Team – Captain: Ben Swadling
The 2nd team have been up against it somewhat this season after taking optional promotion last year. However, with some stoic performances we have made a good account of ourselves and not come last, pulling away from Cooden with our two wins of the season against them.
Stand-out performers include Lewis Wilson, on his continued rise to greatness, Joe Collier and Sam Gunter, regularly occupied the No.1 and No.2 spots, and with grace and good humour took on some of the best players in Sussex – regularly nicking games and harvesting some squash levels! The Edwards siblings were fantastic whenever called upon and Florrie finished the season with a fantastic win away at Dunnings.
We will likely find ourselves in Division 3 next season with a strong squad, plenty of depth and a hunger to get some wins under our belts! I, for one, am super-excited for winter to arrive ASAP!
Mens 3rd Team – Captain: Lewis Wilson
The 3rd team had a great season this year with lots of excellent matches to highlight! Overall, we will come 4thor 5th (won’t know officially until Cooden play this Thursday), which is a great effort in the face of a few strong teams this year.
I would like to say a special thanks to Mr Andy Norris who on numerous occasions filled in for the team last minute. Without him we wouldn’t have been able to play with a full squad, so I think everyone in the 3rds owes him a Guinness!
To conclude, I would just like to thank everyone in the team for making my first time as captain a lot easier as everyone was very organized and put up with me bumbling through being a captain. I would also like to appreciate the core squad of the likes of Florrie, Meg and Ben T for playing most of the matches – well played to you all! I hope to see you next season!
Mens 4th Team – Captain: Elliot Bramwell
This is the first season for the newly formed 4th team, and what a season it’s been! The team have pulled out the stops and though we have struggled to secure the wins everyone has demonstrated progress in every single game.
In the 1st half of the season it was about getting more points in each game but in the 2nd half we’ve seen some real growth with us consistently winning games within each match.
Special shout outs to Ricky Gunter, playing at 1st string for basically every game, he has provided us with a really strong No.1. Ollie Brimecome has truly redefined not giving up on a point, surprising everyone with the shots he can get to. Matt Plumb, Scott Anderson and Florice Cole-Fontayn have all shown some real finesse on the court and provided some great games to watch.
Thank you to all of those who have come along to support us – the support has been immense! Thanks to everyone who has helped the team as we have navigated our first season. A special shout out to Andy Norris with entering results and playing, Megan North for team tactics and great mid-game advice, and Tracey for playing as well as helping to get us set up.
The team as a whole have done really well this season and I’m looking forward to playing and seeing what next season brings.
