Squash and Racketball Court Refurbishment

Dear members
Following the installation of the new floors on courts 1 and 2 at the end of January an issue was identified with the flooring where it was starting to slightly rise along the edge of the courts. Following a meeting with the contractor yesterday it was confirmed that this was due to the wood expanding as it dried out from the damp winter period; the resolution to this has been to cut a slither of wood from the floor along the edge of one side of the court on both courts 1 and 2.

There is now a small gap that will reduce over the next three to four weeks as it settles down, you will notice that the gap on court 1 is already smaller than court 2 as a result of releasing the pressure on the flooring yesterday.

The guidance from England Squash and Racketball is that 6 to 9mm nick is permitted and the courts will settle down the more we play on them.

To ensure that we keep the courts in ’tip top’ condition we plan to clean the courts every 4 months with the first clean taking place in late May, if you would like to volunteer for two to three hours to support this activity please let me know.

If you have any queries or questions please do not hesitate to let me know.

Many Thanks

Mark Davis
