We are excited to be opening our doors to the local community on 11th May at 1 p.m. to sample our fantastic facilities and to mingle with our friendly members. Simultaneously, we will be giving all our members a unique opportunity to receive coaching from Danny Sapsford to raise money for coaching in the community (carried out in conjunction with a charity which is run by Danny Sapsford). Danny is an ex-GB Davis Cup tennis player whose last professional match was a defeat to a certain Pete Sampras in the third round at Wimbledon in 1999. The afternoon will also include exhibition matches and a BBQ. It should be a superb day.
Tennis coaching and other planned activities:
1.00 – 1.45pm – Coaching for ages 5-10
1.45-2.30pm – Coaching for ages 11 – 18
2.30- 3.30pm – Coaching for beginners and intermediates
3.30-4.30pm – Coaching for Team players
4.30-5.00pm – Fastest serve and record results – prize for winner
5.00 – 6.00pm – Exhibition matches.
The fun will start at 1pm and run through until early evening. As well as the above there will be a host of activities to promote the club and, hopefully encourage new members including:
Free 'pick up a racket and play'
tennis, squash and racketball
. Sessions throughout the afternoon for all ages and playing abilities.
Prizes to be won in the fastest serve competition – can you smash it like Djokovic?
Test your skills against our ball machine.
BBQ, refreshments and bar available throughout the day.
A donation of just £15 per head will be required for the coaching sessions. Funds raised will be earmarked to fund improved coaching outreach into the local community for tennis and squash coaching. This will be similar to the great work that Giles and member volunteers have partnered with Step by Step school over the last year and also our efforts to introduce squash to our local community, visiting over 1000 local school children to date.
Coaching sessions must be booked in advance and paid for at the bar. Please do book your slot at the bar now as these slots are available on a first come first served basis. Tickets for BBQ (to include salads and puddings) also for sale - £12.50
Your Club Needs You!
A day of this scale and ambition simply wouldn't be possible without your support so please spread the word and get your friends involved.
If you could spare a few hours, we would really appreciate offers of help in a range of areas including:
· Meeting and greeting visitors, registering their details and showing them around.
· Hitting balls with guests, showing them the ropes of tennis, squash and racketball.
· Manning the all day BBQ and keeping the burgers flowing
· Helping to keep the clubhouse and grounds clean and tidy
· Clearing up when the day closes at approximately 6pm
