2025 SQUASH & RACKET BALL SUMMER SOCIAL – Match 1 Results

And they’re off!!

Disappointed I couldn’t stay for the full evening of combat but pleased to see racket ball is already proving a welcome addition to this year’s summer social.

Thank you to everyone for getting into the spirit of it and a special shout out to Smiffy’s ‘happy’ Labradors for highlighting the excitement of the event.

The Tinners and Bramwell’s Babes kicked off proceedings on the glassback with a very well-matched game of racket ball between Roger and Richard. Injury forced Roger to retire at 1-1 but allowed him a slightly earlier start to birthday celebrations. Happy Birthday Roger! This was followed by hard fought games between Matthew and Elliot (2-1) and Ricky and Lynn (2-1) – putting the Babes ahead but with everything still to play for. Lewis and Ben were up next with a very fast-moving, competitive game but Lewis had the edge on this occasion. Last to play - Creely and Collier. The court survived but only just, and Creely brought it home for The Tinners also securing MOTM for an additional bonus point.

Court 1 saw action from the excited Labradors versus Blue Moon. Team Captain Megan delighted to win the toss and ensure Chris didn’t get to play racket ball – great tactics! However, Chris was just able to overcome Stuart in a very tight squash match (what was in that energy gel pouch?!). Fiona then levelled the score with a great win versus Bernie, holding her nerve to take the third 21-19. Mark and Simon were next with racket ball, and Simon had quite the handicap to overcome. Mark valiantly held it together to secure the win (2-1). Florrie and Megan next – neither of whom have much experience with the oddly short racket – and Meg secured a 2-1 win. Lastly, it was down to Toby to see what he could do against Matt who was giving him 19 points. Matt clearly needs to work on his fitness, it was like he was tired by the 3rd game…. Whilst Toby didn’t win the match he did secure a vital point by securing MOTM.

Finally, the Court 2 battle between Tincredibles and Go with the Flo saw Connor - who didn’t actually sign himself up for the event - step up against team captain Florice in a cracking game (3-0 score not reflective of the game itself). Next up was Stowy versus Karen, whose exceptional retrieving eventually wore Stowy down to secure the win (3-0). Tincredibles captain Scott was up against Henry, both moving around the court really well with some great rallies but Scott (what knee injury?!) secured the victory. Pezza was next against Shaun, and with a borrowed squash racket and a forlorn look to his face it didn’t seem promising, but a hard fought, very close match ensued which could have gone either way, well done both (2-1). Last up was Sam versus Matt at racket ball. Although not Sam’s sport he sure knows his way around a racket and with Matt’s handicap Sam proved too strong on the night (3-0), however, credit to Matt who was voted MOTM.
