House and grounds update

Dear Member

As you know, lots has been going on around the club over the last couple of months so time for a house and grounds update. There’s some important information in here so please do read on.

The artificial clay tennis courts are now complete and bedding in. It looks like we’re all getting into the new routine of dragging them and shoe brushing and changing after we play. This will become even more important as the patio is in its final stages and courts 4-6 are being cleaned next week.

The patio company will be making repairs to the main potholes in the car park and address the dip where water is collecting outside the main door to the clubhouse.

Turning to the squash courts, the work has been completed to repair the roof and we are in the process of seeking quotes for replacement of the floor and refurbishment in courts 1 and 2. We'll be talking to members about this in due course.

During this period, we have also started a review of health and safety and risk assessments, including full servicing of the boiler, squash court heaters, fire extinguishers, fire alarms and emergency lighting. From these, we have become aware of some essential work that needs to be undertaken asap. We will be doing some minor repairs and ‘smartening up’ around the house and grounds and at the last General Committee it was agreed that 2 additional bar tables with 6 chairs would be purchased.

With the unexpected remedial work needed and membership renewals still coming through, other things such as replacement of some of the benches/other outside furniture and a more robust outdoor clock have been put on hold for now.

And finally, a note about the kitchen. You will see there are new reminders and notices up. Please do ensure you follow the rules as if we don’t then we are at risk of not maintaining our food safety rating. 2 particular points to flag: use of the date stickers when opening food/drink and recording of the preparation of food in the sheets on the fridge/freezer. It’s incumbent on us as members to ensure the welfare of each other.

If you see anything of concern or needs addressing, please do pop it in the yellow book for now. We’ll let you know when the house and grounds email is up and running again.

Thank you for your help in keeping our club a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Sarah and the GC
