At the AGM last November support was given to refurbish the squash and racketball courts, following two surveys by squash court maintenance companies it has become apparent that courts are past their sell by date as they were built almost 50 years ago. Courts 1 and 2 have the original maple flooring that have been repaired a number of times and do not have any suspension mechanism which is now the 'normal procedure and installation process’.
The General Committee have been discussing this during the past few months and following a review of the quotes and proposals the decision has been made to go-ahead with the essential refurbishment in January 2024, the work involved includes the following:
Replacing the obsolete floors on courts 1 and 2 with 22mm Sylva Squash Hardwood Flooring
Repairing all damage and cracks on Glass Back, and Courts 1 and 2
Sand and reset of flooring on the Glass Back Court
Full repaint on all courts
Installation of glass balustrades on courts 1 and 2
The total cost of the project is £34,500 and as part of the process we have applied to Mid Sussex Council for a grant of £17,789.00 as part of S106 funds which we are able to apply for in light of the building work relating to the flats adjacent to the club; we will have news on this funding after the Mid Sussex Council Meeting have reviewed our application in early October.
These improvements will update the squash and racketball courts with the objective of attracting new members to join our club and existing members to play on what will be new and improved courts.
This project along with the other investments during the past year concludes the current updates and improvements to our club at this time. This is only possible with the continued support of all members and it is very encouraging to see the membership numbers continue to grow and our facilities improve.
