Hi All.
The delayed Racketball Handicap final was (finally!) played last night after months of injuries, cruises and and other holidays :) As some people could not attend due to short notice here is a final update.
Leon Harris faced up to Matt Gimson with a -15 to +2 handicap to overcome on the hottest day of the year (so far at least), and an on court temperature of 30+ deg C. Due to the incessant heat the decision was made to shrink the games to 3, especially as the ball refused to lie down and die! As it was the match still took one hour to play out.
In the first game the points were being shared fairly evenly until the mid point, when Leon went from -9/+6 to -2/+8. However after this Matt fought hard and Leon made mistakes as they both edged at the same pace to their goal. Matt made it count winning out the first game 15-3.
In the second game Leon took the advantage early on to to grind away the handicap as Matt hit a difficult patch with Leon getting to +1/+6. Matt responded holding things even up to +3/+8. On one of the rallies I counted after about 30 seconds of play another 41 shots! At this point Matt again lost a string of points and despite rallying near the end Leon finished winning out at 15-11. One game all.
The final game started as the most balanced to the half way point, with Leon making unforced errors as frequently as Matt to -3/+9. But with both players tiring the game turned again as Matt made a series of mistakes in an effort to avoid rallying in the suffocating heat and we were eventually at +10/+10. Despite winning a couple more points Matt could not hold the ground and Leon finally won through at 15-12.

It was a match befitting of a club final, thanks to both players for their work and effort in the punishing heat, and thanks also to the small supportive crowd who came to watch.
